This free knitting pattern is ideal for Level 1 - Beginner Knitters

Brought to you by the talented team over at Yarnspirations, this easy knit cowl is a perfect project for beginners as it only requires basic knitting skills.

It is available in two sizes, one for a child and another for adults. The kid’s version, once completed will measure approximately 18 inches deep and about 24 inches in circumference. That’s about 45.5 cm and 61 cm respectively if you use metric units.

The adult version, once finished, should measure about 20 inches deep and 28 inches around. In metric units, that is 51 cm and 71 cm respectively.

To make the cowl, you will need Bernat’s Beyond yarn. It is a luxuriously soft and squishy super-bulky weight yarn made of 85% acrylic and 15% nylon. The yarn’s gorgeous colors and lovely drape make it ideal for making magnificent-looking garments and accessories.

You will also need a size US 11 knitting needle. That’s an 8 mm needle if you are using the metric system.

Moreover, as this piece is knitted flat, we recommend you use the mattress to sew the edges of the cowl together. The mattress stitch is an invisible, vertical seaming technique that makes your knitting look continuous even if its knitted flat.

If you are not familiar with the mattress stitch and would like to learn how to do it, we have an illustrated, step-by-step tutorial that you will surely like. You can find this tutorial here: Learn How to Do a Mattress Stitch.
