This free knitting pattern is ideal for Level 4 - Intermediate Level Knitters

Brought to you by the creatives at the KnitPicks Design Team, this tote bag is knitted side to side using garter stripes and lace mesh.

The pattern is available in a single size, and once completed, has a diameter of approximately 7.5 inches and a length of about 14 inches unstretched. If you prefer metric measurements, the diameter and length are approximately 19 cm and 35.5 cm respectively.

To make the tote bag, you will need KnitPicks’ CotLin Yarn. It is a super soft and lovely DK-weight yarn that is made up of 70% Tanguis cotton and 30% linen. The yarn is simply perfect for making beautiful garments and accessories like this bag that we’re making.

You will also need sizes US 4 and US 6 Circular or Double-pointed knitting needles. That’s 3.5 mm and 4 mm needles if you are using the metric system.

Moreover, you will be doing the yarnover increase and k2tog decrease when working on this project. The yarnover increase is a standalone increase that neither slants to the left nor the right.

We have an illustrated tutorial for the YO if you want to learn it. You can find the tutorial here: Learn the Open Yarnover Increase (YO).

The k2tog is a basic right slanting decrease that is pretty common throughout knitting patterns. It stands for knitting two stitches together. We also have an illustrated tutorial for this technique. You can find it here: Basic Right Slanting Decrease (K2tog).
