This free knitting pattern is ideal for Level 3 - Easy Level Knitters

Designed by the creative team over at Lion Brand, this knit shrug pattern is an effortlessly stylish bolero for the chilly days. It features a cozy shawl collar and picot edges. It’s an easy level pattern to make, too.

The pattern is available in 6 sizes. From cuff to cuff, a finished shrug’s width ranges from 56 inches to 71 inches, and the length ranges from 22 inches to 27 inches. That’s about 142 cm to 180.5 cm, and 56 cm to 68.5 cm respectively if you prefer to use the metric system.

To make this shrug, you will need Lion Brand’s Homespun Yarn, which is a super soft yarn made from 98% acrylic and 2% polyester. It’s conveniently machine-washable, and it comes in gorgeous shades. This is your go-to yarn for making shawls, sweaters, and throws.

Moreover, you will be needing a US size 9 knitting needle. That’s 5.5 mm if you prefer to use the metric system.

Working the pattern requires making the Seed stitch, also known as the Moss Stitch, and is very easy to create.

If you like to learn how to do this, you can check out our fully illustrated tutorial for this technique. You can find the tutorial here: Seed Stitch (aka Moss Stitch).

Finally, as you come to finish the pattern, you will have to weave in the yarn ends. This method will give your shrug a nice and neat finish. For a useful guide to this method, check out this tutorial: Learn How to Weave in Yarn Ends.
