The Interrupted Rib Stitch Pattern is a lovely, textured stitch pattern. In fact, it is a quick and easy knit and purl pattern that is knitted over just 4 rows.
As the name suggests, this is a rib pattern, so it has a lot of stretch. As a matter of fact, it will make a lovely substitute for a standard 1×1 rib.
However, why limit yourself to just using it as a rib substitute? Since the pattern has both a knit and a purl row that interrupts the rib, the finished fabric does not contract in the same way as a traditional rib pattern would.
So, this feature makes this lovely stitch pattern a great pattern for substituting plain stockinette in your knitting project. Actually, not only is the pattern interesting to look at, but it also gives some texture to the finished fabric.
Furthermore, even though this is not really a reversible stitch pattern, the reverse side has an interesting, undulating texture. This makes this stitch pattern a great choice for knitting projects that has two sides that can been seen by the public.
Accordingly, if you are looking for an interesting pattern for your next baby blanket or scarf project, why not try using the Interrupted Rib Stitch Pattern?
