Designed by the talented Halleh Tehranifar, This adorable baby vest is worked in the flat and then seamed together, perfect for knitters who are not fond of knitting in the round.

The pattern comes in 5 different sizes. There’s one for a 0-3 months, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18, and 18-24 month old babies.

To make the baby vest, you will need a Swish DK Yarn, a superwash yarn made of 100% fine merino wool. It is incredibly soft, yet machine washable. The yarn has a wide selection of beautiful colors and shades, perfect for colorwork knitting.

You’ll also need US4 and US5 straight or circular knitting needles. That is 3.5 mm and 3.75 mm needles, if you are using the metric system.

Furthermore, since the vest is worked back and forth, we recommend you use the mattress stitch to sew the vest together. The mattress stitch is an invisible, vertical seam that is used for grafting knitted pieces together.

If you want to learn how to do the mattress stitch, we have an excellent step-by-step tutorial that you will find helpful. You can find this tutorial here: Learn How to Do a Mattress Stitch.

You will also need to slip stitches when you make this knitted vest. To slip a stitch means you just pass the stitch from one needle to another without working it.

If you’re not that familiar with slipping stitches and would like to learn how to do them, we have a tutorial that you will surely like. You can find this tutorial here: Slipping Stitches Knitwise or Purlwise.
