The Diagonal Stripe Pattern is an easy-to-knit slip-stitch pattern that creates a nice impact. The diagonal stripes can easily be worked into any stockinette pattern to jazz it up a bit.
In fact, it is a great color-change pattern for novices to cut their teeth on. Unlike stranded knitting, you only work with one color at a time.
Actually, you knit the same color over 2 rows, while slipping the contrasting-color stitches. This knitting technique means that you do not have to worry about catching floats, etc.
This type of color-change pattern is typical of mosaic knitting. If you would like to find out more about mosaic knitting, we have a great article on the topic.
Our comprehensive mosaic knitting article discusses all the ins and outs of mosaic knitting. In addition, it also gives you a step-by-step guide on how to knit mosaic patterns. You can find the article here: All You Need to Know About Mosaic Knitting.
Likewise, we have a great tutorial on how to slip stitches. The step-by-step slip-stitch tutorial also shows you how to work wyif and wyib. You can find the tutorial here: Slipping Stitches Knitwise or Purlwise
